Home Remedies for the Soul

Healing the Soul with inspiration and love.

Feel Good...

I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much. - Mother Teresa

Watch your thoughts; they become words.

Watch your words; they become actions.

Watch your actions; they become habits.

Watch your habits; they become character.

Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

– Frank Outlaw

Never fear shadows, they simply mean there is a light shining somewhere nearby. - Ruth Renkel

Forgiveness

At some point in our life we started to notice others judging us. We discovered not everyone liked us and that some individuals felt the need to express this dislike not only to us, but to everyone around us.

This action made us feel bad about ourselves and we responded by judging them back. This defense mechanism took hold of our lives and became habit. We took this habit and made it such a part of our being that now we find it very difficult to separate this from who we are.

Our anger at others can be so great and our habit of getting back at others so strong, that we end up lashing out with hatred and judgment toward others. Not only do we react toward those who judge us, but anyone that does something we do not like. Little by little, we slowly lose who we truly are. We build walls of judgment and hate around our souls and end up forgetting that judgment and hatred are paths to self destruction.

These walls prevent us from appreciating our own goodness and respecting ourselves. Over time we become more and more miserable and full of pain and despair. We eventually will see that our behavior is not what it should be, but do not understand how we can possibly change.

We can stop this destructive behavior. Habits can be broken and we can free ourselves from the prison we have built around ourselves.

How do we break the habit? Well we must first love and then forgive ourselves. Nothing can replace self love and forgiveness. If we cannot love or forgive ourselves, how can we possibly forgive others?

It will take a conscious effort to forgive. Just as with any habit, we must force ourselves out of the negative behavior. Each conscious act of forgiveness starts to break down the walls we have created. As we begin to forgive wrong doings or things we have done, we find the strength to forgive others. One builds upon the other until instead of judging, forgiveness becomes our new habit.

Our minds will be clearer and our hearts will be free. Our capacity for love will grow until all things have been forgiven. We then will be in a state of gratitude for what we have learned and the joy we bring to others.

Things to Remember

Your life was a gift to the world, take that gift and use it wisely. You are unique and one of a kind, no one else is quite like you. You can make your life be anything you want it to be. Remember to take one day at a time.

Count your blessings, not your troubles. You will make it through whatever comes along. Within you are so many answers. Understand, have courage, be strong.

Do not put limits on yourself. So many dreams are waiting to be realized. Decisions are too important to leave to chance. Reach for your peak, your goal and you prize.

Nothing wastes more energy than worrying. The longer one carries a problem the heavier it gets. Do not take things too seriously. Live a life of serenity, not a life of regrets.

Remember that a little love goes a long way. Remember that a lot of love … goes on forever. Remember that friendship is a wise investment. Life’s treasure are people together.

Realize that it is never too late. Do ordinary things in an extraordinary way. Have hearth and hope and happiness. Take the time to wish upon a start.

and most importantly do not forget …. not even for a second just how special you are!

If A Dog Were Your Teacher

If a dog were your teacher these are some of the lessons you might learn...

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them. Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride. Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

When it's in your best interest. practice obedience. Let others know when they've invaded your territory. Take naps and stretch before rising. Run romp and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you. Avoid biting, when a simple growl will do. On warm days stop to lie on your back on the grass. On hot days drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree. When you're happy dance around and wag your entire body.

No matter how often you're scolded don't buy into the guilt thing and pout run right back and make friends.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk. Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you have had enough. Be loyal. Never pretend to be something you're not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it. When someone is having a bad day be silent ..... ...sit close by.

...and nuzzle them gently.

An Inspirational Message for a Friend

I know there are times in life that you feel as though you can't do anything right. You never seem to be able to please anyone and everyone around you seems to always be going against you. You may feel stupid, unworthy, and even unloved.

These feelings may lead you to hate yourself or those around you. Hate leads to nothing but pain. Pain only causes more pain and nothing good comes of it. Remember you have a choice in life. You do not have to choose pain. There are better things in life to choose from.

First, let me thank you for being here. I appreciate everything you do even when it you have made a mistake. I know your learning, and learning is always good.

You do not have to try and please me. I will always be there for you, in good times and in bad. Remember, do not try to please everyone, this is a losing battle.

You have a big heart and this is why things bother you. Your heart is what makes you so special; never lose your heart to another. Keep a bit of it for yourself.

Know that I will always love you even when you hate me. I know you are passionate, and I respect that. Just don't hate me for too long.

You are not stupid. If you make a mistake it is ok. I know you will learn from it. Stupidity only comes when you refuse to learn. I have faith in you. I know you will learn.

You are worthy of everything life has to offer. Take advantage of this, life is there for the taking.

Remember I love you. You and I are one, just look in the mirror.

Positive Thinking

Do you ever just stop for a moment and clear your mind? Try it. Think of nothing, let everything go. Let go of your anxieties. Let go of your troubles, even if it is just for a moment.

Now look around you. You will see that the world exists without your troubles. Every blade of grass, each cloud in the sky, each person that passes you by, they do not share your troubles. So let your troubles go, even if it is only for a moment. Your soul will appreciate the break.

Remember life keeps going, even when you think you can't. Do not be so hard on yourself or others, everyone tries the best they can. So stop to take in the beauty around you. There is beauty in everything if you know how to look for it.

Mother Theresa

Look at the beauty in the world. The world is filled with all kinds of possibilities. Every moment you clear your mind a dream is being born. Every dream is a window to opportunity. Do not let your anxieties and troubles tear the beauty of the world apart. You have the power to create. Try it, follow your heart.

Remember these things:
There is still love in the world.
There is still goodness and joy.
Know you are wanted and needed.

And most importantly of all, enjoy being alive.

Start With Yourself

When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world. As I grew older and wiser, I discovered the world would not change, so I shortened my sights somewhat and decided to change only my country.

But, it too, seemed immovable.

As I grew into my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt, I settled for changing only my family, those closest to me, but alas, they would have none of it.

And now as I lie on my deathbed, I suddenly realize: If I had only changed my self first, then by example I would have changed my family.

From their inspiration and encouragement, I would then have been able to better my country and, who knows, I may have even changed the world.
